Checking The New Mall

Though it wasn't part of the plan and I was thinking after a week or two before we visit the place, considering the heavy traffic it caused when it just opened days ago, we still decided to have a look of SM Lanang, since the kids were insisting and very eager to see the place.  And besides, we're just a couple of blocks away from it.  But we had a condition to them, that if the place would still be crowded, we'd go elsewhere.

Traffic congestion was evident along the way, but the good thing was were moving, even if slowly.  Gone were the days when we just swiftly passed by Lanang area.  There's always a price for everything... and it is as expected.

When we finally got to our destination, unexpectedly, there was lesser crowd than what we had in mind.  I guess we were just lucky that a lot of people might be thinking of not going there especially since it was a weekend.  So, it was made convenient for us to roam around.  We saw a lot of shops that's new to Davao, clothing, foods, facilities and other stuffs.  Below are some of the mall pics I had taken:

Although I'm glad to see our city's progress, not to mention a lot of people landing a job... I kinda miss the old Lanang Golf Club, the place where I used to rest my eyes looking at it's green surroundings particularly those huge acacia trees and landscapes.  Oh well, things change and there's no point of being nostalgic.  Just hoping that we had enough with malls and other business establishments (i.e. container yards and warehouses) already and leave some of the remaining soil behind.  Why not, we just let those areas in downtown be improved, it still has a lot of potential.

I know it's a lot cheaper and easier to construct a building in a bare land area, but we sacrifice and lose a lot in doing so... and it is somewhat, irreversible or takes more than a lifetime to correct.  Congestion, waste, nature...  Let's learn from other places.  Just my thoughts.  Yahweh bless.

  1. This mall is pretty huge. Great one for those people who loves to go to the mall from opening till closing of it.

  2. Wow, SM Lanang is currently being noisy in the net. Malls are indeed a sign of development of an area. And knowing that SM is a very good mall, then it means that the place it is in is really good too!

However, development has its sacrifices. Sabi mo nga, "but we sacrifice and lose a lot in doing so... and it is somewhat, irreversible or takes more than a lifetime to correct. Congestion, waste, nature... Let's learn from other places.", the damage is somewhat irreversible, and I hope that this mall, or its owners, be responsible for their actions.

  4. I've been hearing of SM Lanang everywhere and unlike the SM Cebu I grew up to, this one looks pretty swanky. :)

  5. I get your nostalgia on development eating nature as sometimes it's a force we can't stop but I hope we find a median where we can balance nature and development.

  10. Development has its price. Sometimes it is difficult to determine which one is better, the "before" or "after" scenario.

  12. Buildings and other establishments like SM Malls indeed dominate most of the green lands that used to be a shelter to nature's beauty but due to fast paced urbanization, they are long gone. We have no other choice but to live with it and enjoy or better yet, accept.

    1. Accept that these are signs of progress and will make the province of Davao more inviting to visit... more tourists will have the same experience as what Manila can offer.

  15. Progress caused great damage to nature but it also brought so much advancement. It's just sad that to be able to live a better life we also have to deal with traffic and congestion.

  16. Progress, as they say, always has its downside. In this case, unfortunately, it's nature that has to suffer. Let's just hope for the best, that this new SM branch live up to expectations.

  18. That's why Philippines is really not a poor country. With the malls emerging like mushrooms all around the country, Philippines is definitely NOT poor.

  19. Having an SM mall in your area means development and progress. The latest SM mall in our place dwell in the former Girl Scouts of the Philippines headquarters which was surrounded with trees before.

  20. No matter where SM malls are built, I just cannot see myself supporting these. MAYBE, if SM starts paying their employees better, giving them better hours, and actually caring about their health, then maybe... Until then, I'll shop somewhere else :)

  22. Commercial establishments = additional taxes paid to your municipality, employment and yes a sign of progress. hopefully the people in your place benefit from these taxes and improve their quality of life.
