Just how important and significant is this day to our country? Let me just share with you this short but meaningful comment I had in my last year's Independence Day post:
Can you imagine what our life would be if not for this day? We have no rights. Our country is under the rules and control of another nation. We are forced to do things even if it is against our will. We are considered slaves in our own country by people who consider themselves our masters, people who don't have any trace of being a Filipino. We have no freedom to choose, its just between following what they command or suffer the punishment. We don't have a decent identity, we might even consider ourselves less than human.
This was what our forefathers fought for with their lives, our freedom as a country. We heard of the stories of their struggles for independence. The thousands of lives that were sacrificed, with the hope that in the future, their children and their children's children will live freely in our own nation. So, it is needless to say that it is important for us Filipinos, that in this remarkable day, we must pay tribute and remember not only those heroes we knew but all those who fought for our country, whose names were not even known.
Let us not put into waste all their efforts and sacrifices for this gift of freedom our forefathers have given us, and with our Lord's help, let's protect it with our lives that we may never lose it once more. Yahweh bless.
Belated Happy Independence day. ^_^
ReplyDeleteThis is the time to reflect on what happened 114 years ago. Yes, we are free from the tyranny of Spaniards but still we are not free from traditional politics and poverty.
ReplyDeleteVery well said. Thank God for our forefathers who fought for this!
ReplyDeleteBeing independent from foreign rule yes, from poverty...not :( here's a thought (I know many won't agree) What if being the colony of one of those countries we were under treated the country well and we're faring well, would we wish for independence? :D Hehe...happy independence day!
ReplyDeleteFreedom is very important. Even if we're not a first world country, at the very least, we are free.
ReplyDeleteunfortunately we maybe free from other nation trying to control our country but we are still not free with dirty politics.. hope we can get out of it soon.
ReplyDeleteFilipinos may have been physically free for 114 years but sadly we remain chained to poverty and dependence on foreign countries for well-paying jobs.
ReplyDeleteI am wondering how the Philippines looks like without independence. :D
ReplyDeleteProbably there would be more clash and angst. Have you guys think if we're colonized by foreigners now, how's the life of the Philippines then? :D
what a beautiful celebration of the Philippines Independence Day...I am naturalized American but my hearts is always be a Filipino :-)
ReplyDeleteour country is free... we have our own government and all that says our country is independent. But are we really are? If we look around, our country still cannot progress... and we still seek so much help from other countries... so in the end... it still feels like were not free...
ReplyDeleteAnd we should be thankful to our heroes for winning the battle before. If not them we can't achieve the freedom like what we have today. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!
ReplyDeleteour freedom was earned but not without treachery and it still happens to this day.
ReplyDeleteVery well said, sir. I also wish that we as Filipinos become more proud of our heritage and try to learn and understand our history and culture.
ReplyDeleteyear’s celebration of independence is truly an exciting one as Filipinos all over the world are looking forward to international events that will once more exude the Filipino talent,I'm proud to be a Filipino. Mabuhay tayo.
