Kadayawan Events Continue Amidst Threats

It's August an with the Kadayawan festivities in the air, all sorts of activities and exhibits surrounds Davao City.  Even had a chance to visit the plant sale within the parking vicinity of SM Matina, which will be there the whole month.  Aside from the wide array of local and imported plants (ornamental, fruit bearing, herbs, and other seedlings), people were also in a treat for all sorts of famous local fruits (such as durian, rambutan, lanzones, mangosteen, etc.) that were also for sale in every corner of the city.  But the forthcoming celebration is faced by the threat of terrorism.

It's just sad that the fear brought by recent explosions in some parts of Mindanao, greatly affected peoples' mindset about their safety and security.  Even our mayor said the he was thinking of cancelling the event as not to put in peril the lives of the people during the Kadayawan events.  However, knowing Dabaweños, we will not let these threat win us over with fear.  Otherwise, we just would help these terrorists achieve their goal and be more confident in continuing their evil schemes.  We are confident that the event organizers and authorities already thought of ways that would strengthen the security and safety of places where activities will be held.

But then again, we can't also afford to be over confident.  At all times, we must be vigilant, cautious and do our part to help.  We must be observant of our surroundings and promptly report suspicious objects or people to authorities (I'll bet, there will be more than enough policeman visible in every corner of the city, especially the events' vicinities).  Submit our selves to inspections, it is anticipated that there will be a couple of it, so please don't be annoyed.  The cooperation of the people would matter most in the success of festival.

Terrorism and taking innocent lives won't prove anything noble.  It can never justify any political, religious, economic or any cause there may be.  So we pray for a safe and fun-filled event for our very own Kadayawan.  May He enlighten our lost brothers and make them realize that violence won't solve anything nor would it bring them to any valiant goal or whatever.  Yahweh bless.

  1. Hoping for a safe Kadayawan. Terrorism has really played a spoiler to some events but we should just be bold and go on as usual.

  8. No matter what kind of assurance you'll give someone, there's always the sense of fear especially that the celebration was just a few days before the successive bombing incidents. Just glad that the even went well without any incident.
